JaZ remarked that I needed to finish my blog with a “we’re home” entry, and I’m finally getting around to that. We arrived home without mishap or major delay on Saturday, July 31. Our direct trains from Shin-Yokohama to Tokyo’s Narita Airport, the flight from Narita to Los Angeles, and the drive home held no surprises.
You might think we were glad to get home. It’s a mixed bag. Neither of us was really ready for the trip to end – B actually volunteered that as we were getting settled for our flight, and it echos my feelings entirely.
The first four days at home, I did nothing. I did get up just in time on Sunday morning to say goodbye to niece Robyn, who after three long months in Ridgecrest headed back to her home and family. Niece Beth had left earlier in the week.
On the fifth day I bestirred myself. B, in the mean time, had ordered parts for and fixed our 20-year-old gas dryer. Naturally there was laundry to do, and shopping to do, and cooking to do. So I did, and am. Even after this long time, I am still feeling the jet lag.
Meanwhile I have been enjoying the redecorating and the deep cleaning that Robyn and Beth have done for us. They did a marvelous job. Do you know, everything fits in the cupboards now and you can actually find things? I think they’re magicians.
So we’re planning the next few trips, which will be shorter in both duration and miles traveled. But I think I’ll start writing from home as well. It seems to energize me. So, in a few days, the default blog will switch to the new blog and I’ll have the opportunity to bore or perhaps to entertain you even when I am at home!
